Both of Chiala’s parents are alive and well...somewhere. She was considered a disgrace by her parents when she chose at age 17 to enter the service of Shav and Krae, the Goddesses of Spring and Destruction, respectively. Because of the enmity between herself and her parents, Chiala moved to Coldtreath with her younger brother, a twin, soon after her conversion. Her brother, Chuzai, has since moved into an apartment of his own and pretends she does not exist whenever possible.
Her family is admired and beloved in her home town of Wesia; as a result, most of the residents of the Wesia consider her a failure and a black stain on the reputation of the town. Luckily, though, she has earned the respect of the town of Coldtreath, particularly among the middle- and lower-classes because of her service to them as well as her inner strengths. She is also well-known because of her penchant to walk the streets of Coldtreath with her ferret, Tish, draped around her neck.

Chiala has devoted her studies to the eradication of the undead. On her journey to Coldtreath, she and her brother were set upon by a small gang of ghouls led by a hideous villain, the Ethereal Aloutix. They successfully held off their undead attackers and made their escape, but in doing so caused Aloutix to lose face; he has therefore dogged their heels at unexpected moments. His ethereal nature, however, makes him seem imaginary to those around Chiala and Chuzai; when he makes his attacks, it is difficult for the twins to convince those around them that there is, in fact, a very real danger. Many in Coldtreath already doubt Chuzai’s sanity; only Chiala’s piousness and good works preserve her name and reputation in the face of Aloutix’s evidence-less attacks. Chiala spends most of her free time attempting to learn ways to do away with Aloutix and his ghoul gangs once and for all.

What little time Chiala has away from her pursuit of the undead she spends working on the healing arts. Many years ago, her father’s brother–her favorite uncle–gave his own life to save seven-year-old Chiala when she was attacked by a wild boar while playing in the family garden. The local healer was unable to save him as his wounds were too severe for her skills to heal. Chiala held his head in her arms as he died; she has never forgotten his sacrifice. She has also never forgotten the inability of the healer to save her uncle.

Chiala is quite tall--6'8"--and has sallow skin. One of her hobbies is solving puzzles, which helps her in her spiritual pursuits. She is annoyed by other members of the same sex, who she sees as largely frivolous and flighty. She also detests gratuitous violence and rainy days. However, her two greatest loves are her magical mace and buckler, dubbed "Bonebreaker" and "Bloodward" which are never far from her side.
