A place wherein this Dwarven Cleric can share his love of maps, dice, miniatures, and all things involving gaming and general geekery--not to mention the occasional witty non-gaming observations--whilst escaping from the humdrum existence of his routine Terran existence.

Hail and Well Met, fellow traveler! May my Stronghold provide a place for enlightenment and amusement, and somewhere to keep your dice dry. Enter and rest awhile.

[OSR Challenge] Strange Bedfellows

Strange Bedfellows: A Get Ready, Get Set, Go! 3.5 Edition adventure set in a Dwarven Stronghold, but easily dropped into any stronghold or similar structure.

Get Ready:
  • The adventurers stumble into the bedchamber of a sorcerer and his "friend."

Get Set:
  • The resident sorcerer in the stronghold, Daran Stonehand, made one bad choice. Sometimes that's all it takes to change the course of one's life forever. In this case, he summoned a succubus named Aharimael and promptly fell head-over-heels in love with her. The problem is, Aharimael fell in love with him, too. He still must summon her, but once he does she stays with him out of her own free will not only to consort with him, but also to simply sit and talk with him. No one else in the stronghold knows about the tryst. There would be definite trouble if anyone else knew for sure.

If the remainder of the stronghold is deserted, the sorcerer's bedroom is in the lower levels, the door hidden from casual view, and has been untouched by whatever caused the disruption in the stronghold.

Go!:
  • The adventurers more than likely will burst into the room, given the penchant of most adventurers. If they stop and listen at the door they will hear soft talking from within. The door is locked, but not trapped. Daran and Aharimael fully realize what would happen if the news of their relationship were to get out as general knowledge. They will fight, fiercely, to protect their relationship; if Aharimael feels extremely threatened, one of her first actions will be to summon a vrock. There will be no rapid retreat for either side. However, if the adventurers are careful and play their cards right, they can avoid bloodshed and perhaps get some favors (such as potions or scrolls) in return.

Notable NPCs:
  • Daran Stonehand: Dwarven Sorcerer level 14; Init +2; AC 15 (Studded leather); 63 hp; Saves: Fort +6, Ref +6, Will +9; Speed 30 (Boots of Striding and Springing); Attack: Waraxe, dwarven +6 (1d10-1 X3) or Javelin +9 (1d6-1); Base Attack/Grapple: 7/6; Abilities: Str 9, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 12, Wis 11, Chr 17; CR 14

  • Aharimael: Succubus (See 3.5 Monster Manual p.47).

This is the second of 26 adventures that I will be sharing over the month of September. They are designed for use with edition 3.5 of the world’s most popular fantasy RPG, although they can be easily dropped into any fantasy setting (or modern/sci-fi setting with a little work). These posts are a part of Asshat Paladin’s OSR Short Adventure Challenge , and utilize his Get Ready, Get Set, Go! Format.

Interesting. Definitely could lead to some rather unpleasant complications, depending on how the PCs handle things. Cool.
