Of course, it took some effort, and I freely admit that my recent effort is a derivative work. But hey, when the best is there free for use, why not take advantage of it?
And so, I give you the portentous figure, Belim Bolvir, from the OSR Challenge: Short Adventure, "A Mote It Is To Trouble The Mind's Eye."
Belim Bolvir is the oldest of two children. His younger brother, Glordias Silveranvil, and he are opposites in nearly every way. Belim stands an impressive 4' 10" tall and 150 lbs., nearly all of it muscle. Belim has striking golden blond hair and a long beard which he keeps tightly and neatly braided, for it reaches past his toes. He has a noble face with a strong jaw and clear eyes. He grew up with a waraxe in his hands and is able to wield it nearly as a natural extension of his arm. Belim has an impressive history on the battlefield: he has never been beaten in his adult life. It took treachery and darkness to overcome his brilliant soul of light.
Everything Belim touched seemed to turn to gold and platinum. Belim established the Hidden Barrier Stronghold when he was barely an adult and maintained his hold on the stronghold for well over a century. He married a beautiful dwarven lass named Norydd, the daughter of the neighboring Erkak (or Elder Hamlet) stronghold. Their love was a storybook love, even though it was originally a strategic pairing designed to bring strength and security to both Clans.
His brother, Glordias, took a different route to adulthood and was jealous of all that Belim attained. Despite Glordias’ contempt for Belim and his lust for all Belim had, the First King could not see his brother’s faults: they were brothers and that is all that mattered. Belim invited Glordias into his household, and shared his good fortune with his younger brother. His love and charity were answered with treachery and murder: Glordias poisoned Belim and then swept Norydd off her feet, marrying her less than a moon after Belim’s death.
Belim’s beloved son, Helment, is not yet ready to take over his father’s stronghold seat. As a result, Glordias has been named Regent in his stead, a title strengthened by his marriage to Norydd. Helment has not taken the apparent usurpation sitting down, however. He is convinced that his father was murdered and that Glordias committed the act. Belim’s ghost has recently been seen wandering the halls of his beloved Hidden Barrier Stronghold.
