A place wherein this Dwarven Cleric can share his love of maps, dice, miniatures, and all things involving gaming and general geekery--not to mention the occasional witty non-gaming observations--whilst escaping from the humdrum existence of his routine Terran existence.

Hail and Well Met, fellow traveler! May my Stronghold provide a place for enlightenment and amusement, and somewhere to keep your dice dry. Enter and rest awhile.

Wednesday's Who's Who: Lord Thalaron

Today we have the dubious pleasure of meeting Lord Thalaron. Upon spending any significant time with Lord Thalaron, most people describe him as a "vainglorious prig," "overweening prat," "idiot," "fool," or any of a number of terms that question the legitimacy of his birth.

Or any combination of the above.

Lord Thalaron hails from Aeli'el City, many leagues to the south of Coldtreath City. Aeli'el itself is nestled deep within the Fenwood; as a result, they have built up an insular little community -- one could even describe it as "inbred," particularly when referring to the local nobility. Lord Thalaron is one of those local nobility.

He is quite tall with a slender build. Many women find his blue eyes and red hair oddly attractive. Of course, the lavish clothes and expensive jewelry he drapes around his person do not hurt his attractiveness to the opposite sex (or to the local Thieves' Guild for that matter). The fact that his purse is often full to bursting simply adds to the attraction as well. When roused to anger, his blue eyes turn steely and he can be quite an imposing figure.

Unfortunately, once he opens his mouth the attraction and intimidation vanishes quite quickly. He is one of those men who knows a little about many diverse subjects but knows very little about any one single topic of any importance. When in doubt, Lord Thalaron rambles on and offers empty opinions, suppositions, and guesses as solid facts. He does, however, know a considerable amount about the nobility of the city and of the region surrounding the Fenwood. He also knows much about the highest nobles in the Kingdom, as he aspires to be considered among their number and to be a regular attendant at court. His favorite subject is, of course, himself.

Lord Thalaron is highly motivated by these personal aspirations. Everything he does is a calculated plot (in his own way) to better his position and reputation. He loves fine clothing, fine food and drink, and fine art. However, he has no taste and no real knowledge of any of these things; he therefore commonly mis-identifies or mis-represents cheap, common, or reproduced art, clothing, or consumables, often to people who actually know better. Similarly, Lord Thalaron is not a very good judge of character; he often misreads peoples' intentions and their attitudes and feelings towards himself.

Lord Thalaron is actually considered a joke by most nobles outside of Aeli'el and has virtually no chance of being accepted by the court. He currently holds his own court on a daily basis with his followers and hangers-on in a small sideroom off the main common room in the Pale Helm Tavern in Coldtreath. He is seldom without a book of some sort on an odd and esoteric topic, but is seldom seen actually reading the book. Instead, he is usually found behind a plate of either the Pale Helm's braised partridge with blue cheese or stewed grouse and dried watercress. His drink of choice is a large glass of port.
