A place wherein this Dwarven Cleric can share his love of maps, dice, miniatures, and all things involving gaming and general geekery--not to mention the occasional witty non-gaming observations--whilst escaping from the humdrum existence of his routine Terran existence.

Hail and Well Met, fellow traveler! May my Stronghold provide a place for enlightenment and amusement, and somewhere to keep your dice dry. Enter and rest awhile.

Who's Who: Ranzemadge Lickspoon [OSR Challenge NPC]

Man.... Trying to get caught up on a Challenge is miserable. It's my own fault, however, for waiting until DAY 2 to actually decide to participate and get started. I'm getting closer, though.

At least in my own head.

At any rate, here's a little look into the background of the NPC "star" of today's offering, the gnome named Ranzemadge Lickspoon, from the OSR Challenge: Short Adventure, "Gnome is Where the Hearth Is."

Ranzemadge Lickspoon is the Head Cook for the Murdinkul Stronghold. In his own domain–the hearthroom–he is indomitable. When angry or confronted with danger of any sort, he wields his massive (for him) oaken spoon as if it were a club, and wields it very expertly, both in cooking and in combat.

He has been the cook in the stronghold since he was a child, succeeding to the job his parents -— Bimpmip and Flo Lickspoon —- held from their childhoods. Indeed, the Lickspoon family has been serving the Murdinkul Stronghold in this capacity for many generations. Some say that a Lickspoon set up a grilled stenchkow booth at the site of the original stronghold construction and that the rest was history. To be truthful, no one knows for sure when the first of Ranzemadge’s ancestors first took up residence in the hearthroom of the stronghold.

Ranzemadge is small when compared to a dwarf, but is average for his race at 3'4" tall. His black hair is always unkempt, but his brown eyes are striking and piercing when he focuses on something. He is covered with scars: knife scars on his hands, grease and oils burns on his face and body. Ranzemadge is extraordinarily loyal to the dwarves of the stronghold and will defend the hearthroom to the death, if need be.

He believes strongly in luck and loves to play at dice almost as much as he loves to cook. He is a sucker for runaways and orphans, but is annoyed by sappy romanticism. He secretly keeps a small shrine in the hearthroom jointly dedicated to the Goddess of Fire and Destruction, K’m, and the God of Cooking, Ara.
